Hunting in Indian Head, MD

Indian Head is surrounded by several public hunting areas managed by the Maryland Department of Natural Resources (DNR). These areas provide opportunities to hunt a variety of game species, including white-tailed deer, wild turkey, and waterfowl. 

For instance, Chapman State Park, located at 3452 Ferry Place, Indian Head, MD 20640, offers hunting opportunities in its mature forests. 

Additionally, the nearby Myrtle Grove Wildlife Management Area, encompassing 5,190 acres, is the largest WMA in Southern Maryland and provides abundant wildlife for hunters.

Hunting in Nanjemoy, MD

Nanjemoy is home to several Wildlife Management Areas (WMAs) that offer diverse hunting opportunities:

• Nanjemoy WMA: This area consists of multiple parcels, including Wilson Farm, Liverpool Point, Douglas Point, Ben Doane Rd., and Purse, totaling approximately 1,830 acres. These lands are open to hunting, bird watching, and fishing. 

• Nanjemoy Creek WMA: Covering about 225 acres, this WMA provides habitats suitable for various game species.

• Purse Area: Formerly known as Purse State Park, this wooded, undeveloped area along the Potomac River is used for hunting, bird watching, shore fishing, and fossil hunting. 

Additionally, the Doncaster Demonstration Forest, spanning 1,447 acres, offers hunting opportunities alongside educational resources on forest and wildlife management practices.

Hunting Regulations and Licensing

To hunt in Maryland, you must carry a printed paper hunting license and personal photo identification at all times. Fluorescent orange clothing is required during certain seasons.
